Cette fois, les limites semblent atteintes. 700 ch sous le pied droit, pour déplacer une masse inférieure à 1,5 tonne, jamais Porsche n’avait servi un cocktail aussi explosif. Le constructeur sera-t-il capable de concevoir une 911 plus performante encore que cette GT2 RS qui s’est avérée plus rapide que la supercar 918 Spyder sur le circuit du Nürburgring?
Malgré tout le talent des ingénieurs de la marque, la réglementation limitant les émissions de CO² pourrait mettre un frein à la course à la puissance. De là à imaginer une descendante propulsée par moteur hybride, il y a un pas que nous ne sommes, personnellement, pas pressés de franchir. Un moteur électrique et une batterie, c’est beaucoup de poids en plus, ennemi juré de la performance.
En attendant de savoir à quelle sauce les gentlemen drivers seront bientôt mangés, nous nous sommes intéressés à cette GT2 RS qui conserve tout ce qui fait le sel d’une 911, depuis son lancement en 1963. Entre ce type 901 et la dernière évolution du type 991, incarnée par la GT2 RS, plus de cinquante années se sont écoulées, mais le 6 cylindres à plat demeure fidèle au poste, en porte-à-faux arrière.
Porter la puissance de 130 ch à 700 ch ne s’est pas fait en un jour, mais les théories de Ferdinand Porsche ont toujours été respectées dans l’esprit et la lettre. Invités à tester la GT2 RS sur le très sélectif tracé du circuit portugais de Portimao et sur les routes, pas moins sélectives, qui serpentent dans ses environs, nous nous sommes délectés de retrouver une 911 caractérielle à souhait, comme on les aime.
Dérivée de la 911 Turbo, la GT2 RS perd les roues avant motrices. Son train directeur s’en retrouve allégé d’une cinquantaine de kilos, tandis que, comparé à la GT3, son train arrière supporte un lest de 57 kg en raison de la suralimentation et du montage systématique de la boîte à double embrayage PDK. Du déséquilibre des masses qui en découle, les ingénieurs de la marque ont presque fait une qualité.
Ce handicap se retrouve atténué par des années de maîtrise. La GT2 RS bénéficie d’un calibrage parfait de sa direction et de ses suspensions à amortissement piloté, d’une aérodynamique à géométrie variable assurant un placage au sol phénoménal à haute vitesse (416 kg), de pneus spécifiques Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 extra-larges (325/30 ZR 21 à l’arrière) et ultraadhérents, et enfin de roues arrière directrices donnant l’illusion de piloter un coupé à moteur central.
Sans oublier un freinage céramique inépuisable, à condition toutefois d’appliquer une pression énergique sur la pédale. Le talent de mise au point des ingénieurs châssis n’a d’égal que celui des motoristes. Nous ne sommes pas partisans de la suralimentation, synonyme de couple si généreux qu’il en devient difficile à doser en courbes.
Mais, nous avions sous-estimé le savoir-faire de Porsche en la matière. Les turbos à géométrie variable, une exclusivité de la marque, sont plus gros et soufflent plus fort que dans la 911 Turbo mais, miracle de la gestion électronique, les 750 Nm de couple débarquent avec une progressivité suffisante.
Si, par excès de confiance, le potentiel des pneumatiques venait à être dépassé, le dérapage serait contrôlé par le contrôle de stabilité PSM. Nous avons également apprécié le mode Sport de la boîte PDK qui semblait véritablement lire dans vos pensées.
Pour parler chiffre, une accélération de 0 à 100 km/h en 2,8 secondes vous colle littéralement au siège baquet sans autres commentaires. On atteint ici un niveau de performance digne d’une supercar. Sur le circuit de Portimao, nous avons d’ailleurs constaté que cette 911, dopée et mise au régime carbone, suivait sans peine une 918 Spyder, notamment en virages.
Le plus étonnant est que cette version radicale, stricte deux places dépourvue de climatisation (disponible sur demande), s’avère parfaitement vivable au quotidien. Seules réserves, un amortissement d’autant plus confortable que la vitesse est élevée, et un réservoir d’essence de 64 litres limitant l’autonomie à celle d’une moto (90 litres en option).
L’incroyable faculté de la 911 GT2 RS à se plier à tous les usages n’altère en rien son caractère sportif, perceptible au travers d’un style extraverti, assorti d’une sonorité enivrante de moteur de course. Les plus exigeants pourront en outre opter pour le pack Weissach qui, grâce à des jantes en magnésium et à une plus large utilisation du carbone, allège encore l’équipage d’une trentaine de kilos.
Sans connaître celle que Porsche est en train de préparer pour assurer la relève, nous pouvons facilement imaginer que cette GT2 RS restera dans l’histoire comme la 911 la plus rapide de tous les temps. La course effrénée à la puissance à laquelle se livrent les constructeurs n’est pas terminée mais, sous la pression du législateur, il est à craindre qu’elle passera par une électrification néfaste à la pureté du pilotage. En attendant, les inconditionnels de la 911 peuvent déjà se réjouir de l’arrivée de cette GT2 RS qui va une nouvelle fois déchaîner les passions.
