Un air de Woodstock. Chaque année, depuis 2009, Dacia réunit plusieurs milliers de propriétaires de ses voitures et leurs familles autour d’une journée festive. Au menu: animations pour les petits et les grands, essai des nouveaux modèles, concert (la chanteuse Jenifer en 2019) et pique-nique. En 2019, cette manifestation gratuite a rassemblé près de 10.000 personnes, soit plus de 2500 véhicules, à l’abbaye de Chaalis, dans l’Oise.

«Né en Hollande d’une initiative de propriétaires de ces voitures, le grand pique-nique annuel Dacia est désormais institutionnalisé dans de nombreux pays européens», explique un porte-parole du constructeur. Jamais copiée, ce qui est tout de même miraculeux, la marque roumaine de Renault s’est imposée, en seize ans, comme la pépite du groupe. Depuis la Logan, le premier modèle de la famille lancé en 2004, Dacia a écoulé plus de 6,5 millions de véhicules dans le monde, dont plus de 1,35 million rien qu’en France. La Sandero, le modèle phare de la gamme, plastronne à la cinquième place du marché français. Elle est ainsi le véhicule préféré des particuliers en France et en Europe. Et tous les indicateurs sont au vert à l’heure d’accueillir la nouvelle Sandero.
Une belle revanche pour cette marque que l’on ne devait pas voir sur nos routes. La Dacia Logan avait été conçue pour les pays émergents où elle s’adressait aux familles qui achetaient pour la première fois une voiture neuve. Louis Schweitzer, alors président de Renault, n’imaginait pas la vendre aisément dans les pays évolués où les standards sont plus élevés. Puis, ce passionné de bande dessinée s’est ravisé, flairant l’aspiration d’une frange de la clientèle à consommer au juste prix. À 7500 euros, il défrichait un terrain où personne n’avait encore osé s’aventurer. Au modèle du «toujours plus» qui guidait l’industrie automobile, Dacia substituait crânement le concept de juste nécessaire.
Ce n’était pas une mince affaire: les bureaux d’études avaient dû revoir leur logiciel pour concevoir cette voiture basique mais pas rustique. Cela change tout: il ne fallait plus voir le verre à moitié vide mais à moitié plein. Certes, la silhouette de la Logan est peu gracieuse, les solutions techniques éprouvées, la finition et les équipements sommaires, mais aucune voiture n’en offre autant à ce prix-là. Jugés superflus, la direction assistée, les vitres électriques, le verrouillage central et les assistances à la sécurité ne font pas partie du vocabulaire Dacia. Pour l’Europe de l’Ouest, on a tout de même consenti à la doter de l’airbag conducteur et de l’ABS, devenus la norme. Les commentaires affligés et les moqueries qui accompagnent ses premiers pas ne persistent pas longtemps. Un certain nombre de clients, notamment dans les milieux ruraux, se reconnaissent dans cette voiture qui remplace souvent leur vieille guimbarde. Se prêtant à une multitude d’usages, cette 4L des temps modernes est robuste et facile à entretenir par le garagiste de campagne.
Achat malin
Toujours autour de l’idée de la voiture minimale, l’arrivée coup sur coup de la Sandero, une berline à peine plus grande qu’une Clio mais aussi habitable qu’une Mégane, et du SUV Duster finit par changer diamétralement la perception que l’on a de la marque d’origine roumaine. L’achat low cost s’est mué en achat malin. La Dacia n’est pas seulement la voiture des ménages financièrement contraints mais aussi celle de ceux qui ne veulent pas dépenser plus. Alors que le rapport à l’automobile est en train d’évoluer, s’intéressant moins à l’objet qu’à son utilisation, certains arrivent à la conclusion que le budget automobile devient déraisonnable. À quoi bon se priver en achetant une voiture truffée de technologies si c’est pour acquitter toujours plus d’impôts et de taxes liées à l’achat et à l’usage d’une voiture, subir la traque toujours plus intense des radars et se morfondre dans les embouteillages. La succession de crises que traverse notre société fait le lit de ces modèles bon marché mais désormais presque aussi bien équipés que les véhicules de la marque sœur avec qui ils partagent les show-rooms. La troisième génération de la Sandero bientôt sur nos routes n’emploie ainsi plus de composants largement amortis d’anciennes Renault mais le dernier cri de la technologie du Losange. Reposant sur la plateforme CMF-B des citadines les plus récentes de l’Alliance Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi, la Sandero n’a plus grand-chose à envier à la Clio. Elle propose tout ce que doit avoir une voiture moderne. L’absence de l’instrumentation numérique et de certaines aides à la conduite jugées trop intrusives joue même en sa faveur auprès d’automobilistes goûtant le retour à l’essentiel.
Allons-nous tous finir en Dacia? Au train où vont les choses – baisse du pouvoir d’achat, nouvelle relation à l’automobile, arbitrages financiers bouleversés -, l’achat malin devrait continuer de creuser son sillon. L’an prochain, Dacia lancera un véhicule électrique sans dévier du concept originel. Au-delà d’une finition et de matériaux qui restent basiques, l’un des handicaps de Dacia est son déficit d’image qui lui colle à la peau. Comme un sparadrap.
